Minister of Planning Reaffirms Support for Green Initiatives at “Green Minds” School Competition Closing Ceremony

In line with the directives of Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), to support green initiatives and promote environmental and economic sustainability, NIGSD concluded the school competition under the “Green Minds” Initiative, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education and “Well Spring Egypt.”
The competition, launched during the first quarter of the 2024/2025 academic year, targeted 15 schools from Cairo, Ismailia, Alexandria, and Fayoum, with the aim of spreading a culture of sustainability and raising environmental awareness among students.
Winning schools were selected based on a comprehensive assessment of each school’s needs and criteria that included overall cleanliness, water and energy conservation, and student participation in environmental sustainability initiatives within the school. Activities included tree planting, recycling, waste segregation, as well as theatrical and musical performances.
During the closing ceremony, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat reaffirmed her full support for green initiatives, noting that the “Green Minds” Initiative represents a model of cooperation between various entities to achieve sustainable development goals, enhance environmental awareness, and equip future generations with tools for innovation and green thinking.
Prof. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD, emphasized that the initiative was designed to spread the concept of sustainable development among children and youth, especially in light of current environmental challenges.
The winning schools were:
Al-Farouk Omar Primary School – Ismailia (1st place – Public)
Al-Salam Official Language School – Cairo (1st place – Experimental)
Al-Tabary School – Cairo (2nd place – Public)
Mostafa El-Naggar Experimental School – Alexandria (2nd place – Experimental)
