NIGSD Launches the First Environmental Accreditation Standard for NGOs in Egypt and the Arab World

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) has officially announced the launch of the accreditation process for the "Green NGOs Standard," the first of its kind in Egypt and the Arab world, specifically designed to promote environmental practices and institutional sustainability within the civil society sector.
This initiative is introduced in collaboration with the Arab Center for NGO Sustainability at Misr El-Kheir Foundation and the Egyptian Quality Association, aligning with national and regional efforts to advance sustainability and encourage NGOs to adopt environmentally friendly practices.
The accreditation will be issued based on one of the following three levels:
- Bronze Certificate – Green Start: Awarded to NGOs achieving 65% to less than 75% compliance, valid for one year.
- Silver Certificate – Green Progress: Awarded to NGOs achieving 75% to less than 85% compliance, valid for two years.
- Gold Certificate – Green Excellence: Awarded to NGOs achieving 85% or more compliance, valid for three years.
The deadline for applications is October 2, 2025.
The application process involves downloading the introductory form via the provided link, completing the online application, and attaching the finalized form. NGOs can also access the full procedural guide for the Green NGOs Standard, including stages and review mechanisms, through the links announced by NIGSD.
The launch of this accreditation standard reflects NIGSD’s commitment to empowering NGOs to play a stronger role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and contributing effectively to climate and environmental challenges.
